Our History
Who we are
Formerly known as Destiny Seating, Defiant Home Cinema is a hands-on family-run business founded in 1996. Based in Cape Town, Rudi and Phillippa Patoir are inspired by collaborating directly with clients on cinema interior design, product selection, and every detail of installation. They have for many years, proudly exhibited their South African manufactured range of commercial cinema seats at the annual Cine Europe Trade Show in Barcelona.
Their love and inspiration for the cinema exhibition industry began with the completion of the first Ster Kinekor multi-cinema complex in South Africa in 1994, namely “The Wheel” in Point Road in Durban.
Their passion for this industry continues to this day, with the recent seat replacement and interior upgrades of all cinemas at the famous 75-year-old Labia art cinema complex in Cape Town.

Rudi Patoir, CEO of Defiant Home Cinema
Dutch born Rudi Patoir, CEO of DEFIANT HOME CINEMA, founded some 28 years ago, where his attention to detail on all aspects of the fit out of turn key home cinema fit outs for the past 28 years, is also reflected in his enthusiasm and perfection in his motor racing career history.
At present, the DEFIANT gaming chair division is closely associated with Backdraft Racing, owned by the legendary Tony Martin, who back in 1986 won the Daytona 24 hour race, together with Sarel van der Merve & Graham Duxbury. Tony’s commitment to motor racing in South Africa is borne out by his extensive category of Backdraft replica Cobra race cars that form a major part of the national SAES series.
